Doorstep Sport Funding A Welcome Boost

Borough of Poole has received funding of £15,000 to support a new sports development project.

Thanks to a successful funding application, Street Games, a charity that brings sport to the doorstep of young people in disadvantaged communities, Poole has been awarded the additional funding to continue providing sport sessions for young people, following the Football FOCUS project coming to an end.

Run in partnership with local sports providers, the sessions aim to engage with those young people keen to join in but may face barriers in doing so.

Set up at Youth Centre’s across Poole, the ‘Door Step Clubs’ offer a variety of free sport to 14- 25 year olds. Sports will change each term to deliver a wide variety of opportunities.

Beginning on Monday 12 January, sessions this term include football, fitness and climbing. To qualify for the free sessions, young people need to attend a full term's block.

Cllr Xena Dion, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Recreation said: “A project such as this is a great example of partnership working with local providers and venues. With their support, together we are able to offer young people the opportunity to try new sports at their convenience hoping to lead to sustaining that participation in sport in the future”.
