Poole’s Returning Officer Fires The Starting Gun

Borough of Poole's Returning Officer has published the formal Notice of Election for the upcoming European Elections.

The European Elections are being held across the European Union between 22 – 25 May 2014. However, in the UK and Gibraltar Polling Day will be Thursday 22 May.

Paul Morris, Poole's Returning Officer is also Regional Returning Officer for the South West. Yesterday he published the formal Notice of Election and people/political parties who wish to stand for Election must submit nomination papers to Paul by 4pm on Tuesday 22 April 2014.

It is an easy process to stand for Election and any people who might be interested in standing as a Candidate are invited to contact Paul or his team for more information about the process. You can either call +44(0)1202 633081 or email p.morris@poole.gov.uk. A deposit of £5k is payable and is returned providing candidates/parties achieve at least 2.5% of the total votes cast.

Although Polling Day is the 22 May the votes will not actually be counted across the Region until the evening of 25 May after Italy has finished voting at 22:00 hrs UK time.

The Regional Count Centre for the South West will be at the Civic Centre, Poole where the results from across the Region will be received and once the necessary calculations carried out the Results will be announced after 22:00 hrs on Sunday 25 May.
