County Gates Signalling Work Nears Completion

Improvement works to the traffic signals at County Gates are nearing completion.

The works involved each set of traffic signals being upgraded. The signals are due to be tested and commissioned on Friday 25 October with final installation works being completed over the weekend.

The works are part of the £12.1 million Three Towns Travel project which encourages sustainable travel options between Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch.

Over the last seven weeks a range of improvements have been made to the junctions including:

*  improved control by providing better linking of the individual junctions. This will lead to reduced congestion and allow bus priority to be installed
*  replacement of equipment that has reached the end of its useful life
*  kerbside pedestrian detection to make pedestrian facilities more efficient
*  improvements for cyclists
*  upgrading communication systems between this site and the traffic signal management system
*  reducing power consumption which will reduce the carbon footprint and the running cost

Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole, Borough of Poole, said: "The improvement works being carried out on the signals at this key junction have been undertaken as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to road users. We are pleased that we are in the final stage of works and are currently due to complete this project on time. We would like to thank road users for their patience and understanding while these improvements have been carried out."

The works cost around £180,000 and are due to be completed on 27 October 2013.
