Lost Pubs Of Poole Exhibition

A new exhibition, providing people with an historic insight into the Lost Pubs of Poole, was launched at Oakdale Library on 21 June.

Presented by Frank Henson, a local enthusiast, the exhibition showcases a range of interesting and historic pubs in Poole from the original Potters Arms in Blandford Road, Hamworthy to The Bell and Crown, Poole High Street.

Each pub featured includes a brief history, for instance The Bell and Crown was rebuilt replacing a previous building, probably called The Bell Inn, and is now an outlet for Poole based Lush Cosmetics.

The exhibition was officially opened by Councillor Judy Butt who was joined by local residents and Creekmoor with Oakdale Women's Institute.

Freshly baked cakes were provided by Creekmoor with Oakdale WI with all proceeds from their sale going to the Oakdale Library Reading Garden Project.

Councillor Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation, with responsibility for Culture and Communities, Borough of Poole said: "I was thrilled to be able to launch this wonderful exhibition. Pubs have always been an important part of our community and provide a very pleasant environment for people to socialise. It was a fascinating trip down memory lane and I would encourage everyone to come and have a look."

This free photographic exhibition will run from 21 June to 12 July 2013.
