Go Ahead Given For First Homes To Be Built On Pilkington Tiles Site

Plans to build the first homes on the former Pilkington Tiles site in Poole have been approved by councillors.

Members of Borough of Poole's Planning Committee voted unanimously to grant the Reserved Matters Application submitted by Inland Homes plc, subject to conditions, at a meeting held on Thursday 18 July.

The application refers to the first phase of development on this site and its approval is the last hurdle before construction can begin. The first phase is located immediately adjacent to the Blandford Road and Ivor Road properties and includes the building of 82 homes, comprising one and two bedroom apartments, and two, three and four bed houses, and two business units (B1).

Councillor Philip Eades, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Borough of Poole, said: "The applicant has worked well with the local community and this was acknowledged at the Planning Committee. The main considerations for this application were the appearance of the buildings and landscaping of the site for phase 1 of the scheme. All other considerations, including site layout, site access and scale of buildings, were addressed as part of the outline planning application.

"The committee considered that the appearance and design details of the scheme not only related to the local area, in terms of its architectural design features, but also created its own identity.

"This is the first phase of a much wider scheme to bring family housing, employment space, a new public quayside and the delivery of the Port Link Road to Poole."

Outline planning permission for the whole site was granted in December 2012.
