Borough of Poole To Look At Options For Long-Term Beach Hut Leases

Borough of Poole is planning to offer some of its beach huts on a fixed-term lease following approval by members of Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

The proposals, which will require Cabinet and Full Council approval before going ahead, would see some beach huts offered to Poole residents on a 25-year lease.

Members also recommended the approval of proposals to provide approximately 79 additional new beach huts in 2014 and 2015.

Cllr Tony Trent, Chair of Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Borough of Poole, said: "Poole's beaches are one of its most prized assets and understandably waiting lists for beach huts are long.

"We must try to ensure we make as many huts available to our residents as possible through a range of options. These include annual let, short-term let, and possibly in the future, the use of long-term leases – which would help finance the provision of new huts. It is important we offer something for every budget and need, and we hope that by providing more beach huts using different letting and lease options we will be able to do this."

Proposals will be developed and presented to Cabinet on 14 January 2014. If recommended for approval they will then go to Full Council on 25 February 2014.
