Improvements To Public Toilets

Borough of Poole is carrying out improvement works at some of its beach toilets to ensure they are ready for the Summer season.

Toilets at both Branksome Chine Car park and Branksome Chine Promenade are having a new power supply connected following an electrical fault at the beginning of the year. The car park toilets are still open but the promenade toilets are currently closed and visitors are advised to use either the car park toilets or the Canford Cliffs promenade toilets.

In addition, last year members approved £250k capital works to replace old single pumps in selected locations along the promenade. The pumps were operating with a high risk of failure in peak times, which would have resulted in sewage on the beaches and the closure of toilets. This meant that the works could not be put on hold and therefore are being carried out prior to the peak Summer season.

Branksome Dene Chine toilets are currently closed until Friday 24 May whilst a new pumping station is built.  Visitors will be directed to the nearest alternative facilities and Transportation Services are arranging for temporary toilets to be available for anyone booked into the community room.

A new pumping station is also being built close to toilets at Flaghead Chine. Works began on 22 April and it is hoped that the toilets will only be closed 20 – 24 May. During this week the public will be directed to either Canford Cliffs Promenade or Shore Road toilets.

Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "With Summer approaching, and visitor numbers to Poole's fantastic beaches increasing, it is important that these works are carried out before the peak season begins.

"I hope the public will understand that these works are vital and I would like to thank them for their patience during periods of closure."
