Has Your Business Got Momentum

Borough of Poole has launched the Momentum Cycle Challenge.

This is a fun, free competition to encourage your workforce to remember the joys and benefits of riding a bike. Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole businesses will compete against each other to see who can get the most staff to ride a bike for at least ten minutes a day between Monday 27 May and Sunday 16 June 2013. There are lots of fantastic prizes on offer to tempt you including cinema tickets, local restaurant vouchers and bike gear to support your cycle journey. The winning organisation will win a fantastic prize that staff will be able to share amongst themselves.

Organisations will compete against those of a similar size for a fair chance of winning. There are six size categories: 500+ staff, 200-499 staff, 50-199 staff, 20-49 staff, 7-19 staff, 3-6 staff. The level of participation will count towards the organisation's score. It will all be calculated live on the website so that businesses will be able to see what position they are in.

Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "Cycling is a great way to improve fitness, reduce your cardon footprint and make the most of the fabulous scenery we have in Poole.

When we launched this challenge, many people came to try a variety of bikes, including a penny farthing and a tandem. I hope to see as many of my fellow councillors taking part as possible and I would encourage people to sign up and get pedalling."

For more information visit the Momentum Challenge website where you can sign up to take part. The website also has great tips on where to ride locally whether you are a beginner or a pro.

The Momentum Cycle Challenge is part of the Three Towns Travel programme being implemented across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

Based on a variety of schemes, Three Towns Travel will see improvements to a range of travel options. From on the ground enhancements to bus, cycle and walking facilities on key commuter routes, to infrastructure developments at travel interchanges. Three Towns Travel will make travelling between Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch easier, safer and more attractive.
