From Aquatic to Cinematic

A special trail featuring extraordinary films, animations, exhibitions and performances by local young people who attended a two-week summer school at the Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts, will take place along Poole Quay link will open in new window on Tuesday 9 September.

Inside Out FestivalThe young people's work is inspired by 'Wind and Sails', the theme of this year's Inside Out link will open in new window, which presents Veles e Vents (Wind and Sails) a spectacular large-scale outdoor performance in Weymouth on 26-27 September to celebrate the launch of the Cultural Olympiad in Dorset.

Some 50 young people aged between 11 and 15 took part in the workshops, working with artists James Price, Matthew Dean and Amanda Byrom. Visitors to Poole Quay will see the results of their work at various locations including projections at Poole Museum, and films in bars and restaurants. Meanwhile, outside Fish Shambles (near take away kiosks), young people will perform live dance and drama routines, and Adrian Newton will perform live mixing of sounds inspired by the sea. There will also be a 'film waiter' so visitors can select their own personalised screening from a film menu.

The young people's work will also feature at the B-side festival in Weymouth, the same weekend as Inside Out presents Veles e Vents at Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth - which the young people will have an opportunity to see.

As well as creating exciting and inspiring work, 25 of the young people gained a bronze Youth Arts Award during the project, which will count towards their future education and careers.

Marianne Scahill, Arts in the Community Officer, Borough of Poole said: "Once again local young people from Poole have displayed a wealth of ideas, creativity and commitment to learning new skills, through the amazing work they have produced. We are celebrating this collection of animations, films and choreography, at this film trail on Poole Quay, which is part of Dorset's Inside Out that presents extraordinary events in extraordinary places. We hope you can join us!"

This is an exciting, one-off outdoor event, which is part of the launch of the Cultural Olympiad. Alongside this the series of workshops for young people will give them the opportunity to get involved in the arts and be inspired by stories from the sea and extraordinary journeys.'
