Poole Bridge Improvement Works Update

exisiting poole bridgeWork is due to start on the Hamworthy side of Poole Bridge as part of an ongoing project between Borough of Poole and Poole Harbour Commissioners link will open in new window to improve road approaches to the bridge.

In order to minimise disruption to daytime traffic, lane closures using temporary traffic lights will be in operation between 7pm and 6am, from Monday June 9 to Wednesday June 25.

The scheme to improve forward visibility for drivers of large vehicles started on the Poole side on May 19 and that part of the project is nearing completion.

Councillor Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole said: "We are pleased that the works to improve the bridge approaches are progressing well and the benefits of the improvements are becoming clear. This should make a real difference to the daily traffic disruption caused by large vehicles using the bridge."

Jim Stewart, Chief Executive, Poole Harbour Commissioners, said: "This is a good example of what the two authorities can do when working together for the common good of the port and Hamworthy. There is still more to be done and we continue to work with Borough of Poole to make sure the improvements are the best that can be achieved".

In addition to these works, Borough of Poole will be carrying out essential repairs and maintenance on Poole Bridge between Monday 23 June and Wednesday 25 June.

To complete these works quickly and effectively the bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians between 11:45pm on each night and re-open at 5.30am the following morning.

All scheduled lifts of the bridge will take place during the lane and bridge closures; however, on the nights of complete bridge closure only one side of the bridge will lift. Every effort will be made to grant requests for commercial lifts but these will mean only one side lifts and at least 24 hours notice must be given to the control room.
