28 Apr 08Twin Sails Bridge Update
Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy, Borough of Poole said:
"We are making good progress towards the redevelopment of the former power station site in Hamworthy. The Council is currently awaiting amended proposals for the site from the landowners JJ Gallagher, which it anticipates will be submitted by the end of May.
"We are continuing to hold positive negotiations with JJ Gallagher with the aim of securing an appropriate financial contribution towards the cost of construction of the Twin Sails Bridge. While these negotiations continue, the Council has taken the decision to stand down its current shortlist of contractors who have expressed an interest in submitting a tender for the project.
"Once an appropriate financial contribution has been agreed with the landowners, the Council will restart the procurement process and invite a fresh round of bids for tender from contractors.
"Detailed designs of the Twin Sails Bridge and the preparation work for procurement have been completed. The Council also has the Transport and Works Order Act and planning consent for the bridge in place.
"In the meantime, we will continue to focus our efforts on negotiating an agreement with JJ Gallagher, which meets the Council's vision for the Hamworthy power station site.
"The development of this site offers a unique opportunity for the economic future of the town and we remain positive that this can be achieved."
