'Beautiful' Project On Tour

A photography project which has given older people in Poole the opportunity to capture beautiful aspects of their lives is now complete and on display.

The 'beautiful project' saw older residents from Old Town and Parkstone working with photographic artist Joe Stevens and Denise Poote from Dorset. As well as teaching them the art of photography, the artists asked participants to create a series of images looking at the extraordinary and beautiful through to the ordinary and everyday aspects of their lives. displaced

Artist, Joe Stevens, said: "My aim was to engage the older members of the community in this project and give people a quality arts experience through which they could improve their independence, health and wellbeing. I also wanted them to have fun taking pictures. Together we have produced a strong body of work that reflects their lives in Poole and the beauty that surrounds us all."

Barbara, a participant in the project said: "The project has been great fun with new friends and new experiences. I have also learned a lot about camera use."

Councillor Elaine Atkinson, Portfolio Holder for Well-being and Housing, said: "This has been an exciting opportunity for older people to take part in high quality arts activities and they in turn have allowed us a snapshot into their lives through their photographs."
