8 Dec 06Success For Poole's Pupils At Key Stage 2
Pupils in Poole have once again performed well in this year's Key Stage 2 tests.
Results show an improvement in the performance of 11-year-olds taking the test in 2006.
Poole's schools recorded their best-ever results in English, with 82% of pupils gaining at least a Level 4 (the expected level for the age group). There is also a rise in the number of children gaining the higher Level 5.
In mathematics, pupils have again repeated the success of last year's results, with 76% attaining the Level 4 standard. Pupils also equalled 2005 results in science, with 89% achieving Level 4 or better.
Poole's results are higher than the national average in English and science, and equal to the national average in mathematics.
Key Stage 2 tests indicate the progress made in National Curriculum learning over four years by children between the ages of seven and 11.
The new value-added scoring system, which indicates progress between Key Stage 1 tests taken at the age of seven and the Key Stage 2 tests for 11-year-olds, shows that pupils make average progress in Poole, with a number of schools showing greater than average progress.
Jane Portman, Chief Adviser, School Advice and Support Service, Borough of Poole, said: "We are delighted that our schools' hard work is showing such successful outcomes - they should be congratulated. Poole continues to build on its successes."
Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children's Services in Poole, said: "I am delighted with Poole's success once again. This is a tribute not only to the work of the schools and pupils, but also to the support that Poole LA gives in advice and support for improvement. Congratulations to everyone and keep up the good work."
