The Borough of Poole has signed up to a new deal to help employees stay fit and healthy.

The Borough's Chief Executive Jim Brooks will be presented with a certificate by Dr. Paul Harker, Director of HealthWorks, a part of the NHS which works to help improve the health of people in Poole.

The importance of people's health was recognised in a new Government initiative, "Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation," which aims to put health into the mainstream of business and organisational life and to spread the message that "Improving Health is Everybody's Business."

Working together with health experts from HealthWorks, the Borough of Poole is building on current health promotions such as new cycle storage and shower facilities, stress management, no smoking policies, employee counseling and occupational health services to encourage employees to think about their health and how they can improve it.

Jim Brooks, Chief Executive, Borough of Poole, said: "Everyone needs to recognise how important it is to look after their health, not only in the work place but at home as well. Sometimes it is all too easy to forget about exercising and healthy eating - especially at this time of year. By working with HealthWorks we can help our employees by providing support so they can lead a healthier lifestyle both at work and at home".

Paul Harker, Director of HealthWorks, said: " We spend a large part of our lives at work, often feeling stressed out, unable to eat healthily or take enough exercise. I am delighted that the Borough of Poole are signing up to the Health at Work scheme. Because they are taking action to make it easier for the workers to make lifestyle changes to ensure good health. HealthWorks will be supporting the Council, so that all good ideas come to fruition."
