SETTING PRIORITIES IN POOLE

Nearly 2000 people met their Council at the Dolphin Shopping Centre during the Borough of Poole's first meet your Council event 'All Ears!'.

Following the success of the event the Council is now visiting areas around the town to listen to local residents' views on the Borough's services, priorities and Council Tax for the coming year.

Five 'round table' events open to all local residents, members of the Chambers of Trade and local Community, Tenants and Residents Associations are being held to discuss the Council's draft performance plan for 2001-2002 which includes priorities for improving services over the coming year. These will take place on:

· Friday 24 November, 7.30pm, Bearwood Community Centre, King John Avenue
· Monday 27 November, 7.00pm, Poole Old Town Community Centre, Lagland Street
· Tuesday 28 November, 7.30pm, All Saints Church Hall, Western Rd, Branksome Park
· Friday 1 December, 7.30pm, Broadstone Community & Arts Centre, Dunyeats Road
· Monday 11 December, 3.30pm, The Martin Kemp Welch School, Herbert Avenue

Local Councillors and Officers from the Borough of Poole will be on hand to listen to people's views and answer any questions.

Cllr Brian Clements, Leader of the Council, said: "A great deal of debate about Council services and the Council Tax was sparked off by the Dolphin Shopping Centre event, where a lot of people took the time to talk to us about the issues which were most important to them. To make sure we plan what people want to see for the future of the town, we need more local people to be involved and tell us what they want from the services the Council provides".

"These meetings are also a chance to see how the Council is working to improve services and give a very local perspective on people's needs. Whilst some things will be important across the town, I'm sure there will be many which are specific to certain areas and this is your chance to tell us what they are. It's your Council and Council tax and it is important that we know how you think it should be spent. So please get involved, we'd love to see you there".
