26 Jan 07Taking The Recycling Message To Your Doorstep
Borough of Poole is launching a door-to-door campaign to advise residents on the importance of recycling.
A dedicated team will be pounding the streets of Poole from 29 January, offering handy tips about recycling, promoting the Borough's popular Blue Bin scheme and dealing with residents' queries.
The door-to-door campaign will run until the end of May 2007 and is funded by the Waste Resource Action Programme (WRAP)
, which has awarded Borough of Poole £259,100 to support a promotional campaign aimed at raising recycling rates.
Recycling promotions will continue throughout the summer, with further stages focusing on advising visitors to Poole on the ways they can help keep the Borough clean and green.
Residents in Poole were invited to complete a recycling awareness questionnaire in November, in which they were asked a range of questions, from how easy they find it to recycle to which items they place in their blue bins.
Borough of Poole's recycling team are using the questionnaire results to prepare for the doorstep campaign and to focus on topics where residents may want extra advice.
The Council is employing Hyder Consulting to carry out the door-to-door campaign. All staff will carry ID badges bearing their photographs and the team will be wearing a distinctive bright orange uniform branded 'recycle'.
Cllr Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "This campaign is designed so that the Borough of Poole can focus our attention on understanding how residents recycle and what difficulties they are facing. The door-to-door service is there to offer advice and answer any queries and we hope that residents make the most of this. The overall aim is for the Borough of Poole to work closely with residents to further increase the recycling levels."
