Making their mark: 15 days in print

The Borough of Poole is supporting a special arts event entitled, '15 Days in Print' set up with funding from the 'Aim Higher' initiative at The Arts Institute in Bournemouth.

This scheme, which encourages wider participation in local arts activities, has enabled seven adults with learning disabilities to develop professional skills and techniques in the field of printmaking. The group, from Borough of Poole's Leisure and Learning within Day Opportunities, have been working from the Stables Studios at Holton Lee and have used the landscape around them for inspiration.

Inspired by the success of "15 Days in Clay", the workshops are being led by Janet Smith and Helen Brasher of Poole Printmakers. The former Arts Institute students, have been sharing their technical and creative skills with the group, who have produced a strong portfolio of work based on the landscape of Holton Lee.

Councillor Elaine Atkinson said "It is great to see so many choices being offered within the arts in Poole. Alternative day opportunities are essential for offering important choices to people. "15 Days in Clay" is a prime example of how art can enable people to develop and progress in so many different ways. I am sure that the new printmaking group will share the same success as the ceramics group. It's exciting to see the project Poole Connects - Building Active Communities bearing fruit with this, the recent Banners Project and other community Arts projects".

There will be an Open Day at Holton Lee on the 24 June when the original prints that have been created during the 15 days will be on sale to the general public. There will also be the opportunity to see more work from the "15 Days in Clay" ceramics group on the same day.

To get to the exhibition, Holton Lee is situated off the A351 next to the Romany Industrial Estate which is 4 miles from Wareham and 6 miles from Poole.
