CAN YOU SEE WHAT IT IS YET?

Budding artists from Ashdown and Ad Astra First School's are giving a local subway a splash of colour as part of the Borough of Poole's TravelWise campaign.

During Green Transport Week (7-14 June), pupils are painting the subway with their own designs which encourage people to use public transport, cycle and walk instead of using the car.

The scheme has been supported by B&Q (Fleetsbridge) who provided paint and equipment and A1 Hire and Sales with the loan of low-rise scaffold towers which enable the children to reach the top walls.

During a recent Safer Routes To School survey, the subway came high on the list of "black spots" where pupils felt vulnerable and unsafe.

Teresa Brown, Travel Awareness Officer, Borough of Poole said: "The designs and art work are excellent and we hope that all the hard work will give pupils more pride in their local area and make the subway a less frightening place to walk through. They have shown a tremendous amount of enthusiasm in helping to make this part of Poole a more beautiful place."

The subway should be reopened for public use next week.
