QUAY ADVICE CENTRE OPENS ITS DOORS

The Quay Advice Centre, a Borough of Poole Youth Service Project, is set to provide good quality, up-to-date information and advice to all young people aged between 11 - 25 years.

The Advice Centre's aim is to help young people make informed decisions and choices about their lives and life-styles through access to free information, advice, counselling and general support.

Working with the East Dorset Drugs Advisory Service and Poole Accommodation Support Scheme, Quay Advice will also offer specialist sessions throughout the week. Issues covered include: careers, housing, health, legal issues, education, employment, family problems, life skills training and drug and alcohol advice. A sexual health clinic will also open in September on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Councillor Annette Brooke, Chairman of the Education Committee said: "The needs of young people are continually changing and our service must be responsive to those changing needs. There is a general consensus from young people and from all agencies working with young people, about the need for such advice to be provided in a central location in Poole. The Quay Advice centre will do just that and I am very proud to be associated with the decision making which has led to this project."

The Centre, which opens for the first time on 2nd August 1999, will initially provide a daily service from Monday - Friday, 1.00pm - 6.00pm (7.00pm on Thursdays).

Volunteers and Volunteer Counsellors are also needed to help contribute to the project. For more information, please contact Carol Sayers, Service Manager on 01202 262291 or 262292.
