WOMEN IN ART

'Women in Art' is a new exhibition of works of art from the museum collections at the Waterfront Museum in Poole. Paintings, print and drawings have been selected to show different ways of how women are depicted in art. The items are selected for the exhibition show this through formal and informal portraits and studies.

The subjects of the pictures include a number of prominent local women such as Ada Briggs, who was Poole's first woman councillor, Lady Cornelia Wimborne and Sarah Slade, one of Poole's wealthy merchant families. The exhibition includes works by local artists such as Leslie Ward, Percy Wise, Eustace Nash, Irlam Biggs and Arthur Bradbury. Some of the pictures by these artists are portraits depicting their own wives and children.

The exhibition runs from 24 September

The Museum is open Monday to Saturday 10.00am to 5.00pm. Sundays from noon to 5.00pm

Admission costs £2.00 for adults, £1.70 for senior citizens and students and £1.35 for children.

Admission is free for residents of Poole.
