NATIONAL ADOPTION WEEK

11-15 OCTOBER 1999

People across the country are being encouraged to find out more about adoption during National Adoption Week.

In support of the week, staff from the Borough of Poole's Adoption and Fostering Team will be on hand to provide information and advice to anyone interested in adoption in the foyer, Poole Central Library, on Thursday 14 October between 12pm-2pm.

Currently, up to 10,000 children are looking for permanent homes across the country. As part of the South Coast Adoption Consortium, the Borough of Poole is working with Councils from the Isle of Wight, West Sussex and Southampton to increase the range of adopters and ensure the right families are found for children.

Joyce Spiller, Adoption and Fostering Manager, said: "Since the Consortium was launched in 1997 we have been successful in finding many children new families who can give them love and stability. However we still need more families and are especially looking for people who would like to adopt brothers and sisters, older children and children with learning difficulties. People from all walks of life can adopt. Whether you are single or live with a partner, the only real criteria is a high commitment to meet a child's needs".

Anyone who would like to find out more about adopting can contact Karran Stroud or Jean Plyer at the Borough of Poole Adoption & Fostering Team on tel: (01202) 261501.
