Poole Safe Together Partnership promoted their message of keeping valuables safe over Christmas and in the new year by running a children's colouring competition based around the theme.

Children who visited the Housing and Community Services reception, at the Civic Centre throughout December were asked to produce pictures with the title 'At Christmas Don't Leave Valuables In Your Car'.

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Support was there to hand out the prizes. She said:  "One of the Poole Safe Together Partnership's main priorities is tackling vehicle crime and the children's pictures beautifully illustrated the issue, and hopefully will make people think about what they can do to prevent it in the new year."

The competition was entered by 20 children, who were split into age categories of up to six years old and 7- 16 years old.

There were eight winners who received an array of prizes including swimming lessons, swimming accessories, £20 of audio and video vouchers for Poole libraries.

Cllr Ann Stribley, Chair of Poole Safe Together Partnership and judge of the competition, said: "Past years have shown that it is common for a rise in the amount of theft and robbery over Christmas, but the message is also key all year round and we want to encourage people to be vigilant."

The pictures will be displayed in the Housing and Community reception at the Civic Centre throughout January.
