Keep Your Valuables Safe This Christmas

Poole Safe Together Partnership is reminding residents of Poole not to leave valuables in cars over the Christmas period.

The Vehicle Crime Task Group is issuing the following advice over the festive period:

· Park in a well lit area, such as council car parks.
· Lock car doors and windows.
· Don't leave presents or valuables on display in cars.
· Try not to return shopping to the car half way through a trip - thieves may watch the car park and take advantage of this.
· Remove 'sat nav' devices and cradles when leaving the car - these are a prime target for thieves.

Cllr Ann Stribley, Chair of Poole Safe Together Partnership, said: "It's all too easy to forget general crime prevention measures when we're caught up last minute Christmas shopping. We urge people to remember that Christmas is a good opportunity for car thieves and it's more important than ever to remain alert."

Richard Hein, Chair of Poole Safe Together Task Group, said " This message is important throughout the year but particularly relevant at Christmas time when many people are busy and preoccupied with the festive season."

"All of the Borough of Poole's shopping car parks are accredited in the Park Mark link will open in new window scheme, which aims to reduce crime in car parks. Alongside this it is key that people stay vigilant to help us maintain high levels of safety."

The Vehicle Crime Task Group brings together representatives from the Borough of Poole's Transportation Services, Dorset Police link will open in new window, Poole Crime Prevention Panel, Community Safety and the Youth Offending Team.
