Turlin Moor's Big Bid Adventure

Residents of Turlin Moor could soon be part of a big adventure if a project bid to the National Lottery's 'People's Millions' link will open in new window, is successful. The Turlin Moor application has been short listed along with seven other finalists who will go head to head in a television showcase, followed by a public vote, with four winners

The bid for £43,000 was submitted by Turlin Moor Community First School's Head Teacher Karen Davies, Senior Teacher Honoria Knight and Turlin Moor Action Group. It is a community led project which plans to construct an Adventure Play Area, Youth Shelter, Outside Gym and Nature Trail.

'People's Millions' is a scheme under the National Lottery's 'Big Lottery Fund' link will open in new window and is working in association with ITV Meridian link will open in new window with the successful bid chosen by Meridian viewers. The short listed applications will be highlighted on ITV Meridian link will open in new window from the 13-16 November at 6pm every night. Two projects will be shown each night and the public will be able to telephone and text to vote for their favourite project. In total four winners will be selected to receive a grant.

The project is supported by the Borough of Poole Leisure and Youth services. Backing has also come from local organisations including Hamworthy Beat Team, Dorset Fire and Rescue link will open in new window, Dorset Wildlife Trust link will open in new window, Turlin Moor Action Group, Turlin Moor Community Middle and First Schools, the local Youth Club, and Dorset Probation Area Community Service Unit.

Councillor Lou Knight, Ward Member said; "This is great news for Turlin Moor, I am delighted that we have made the shortlist. It is encouraging that this project has been recognised as a worthwhile development and, if we are selected, it will be a big boost to the area." 

Councillor Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Support said; " Our community support theme is all about supporting the community to help itself and each other and I'm delighted to see the Council's priority of Building Active Communities  bearing fruit. I believe this is a positive example of  bringing the community together and enhancing the area and the Council fully supports the scheme."
