11 Nov 03Toilets Re-open after arson attack
Alexandra Park toilets are to be reopened after extensive repairs have been completed following severe arson and vandalism attacks earlier this year.
Following an investment of £34,000 refurbishing the pre-war toilets in February, a further £20,000 worth of work has had to be carried out after two separate attacks of vandalism in the last nine months.
Councillor Jonathan Pethen, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "We are extremely focused on developing and maintaining Pride in Poole and protecting basic services is a key factor in this process. We ask members of the community to work with the council and police to help protect these services against criminal damage which not only causes inconvenience to local residents but also adds increased costs to all council tax payers in Poole."
The Borough of Poole is aware of the increasing levels of anti-social behaviour in the area and is examining options to tackle the problem and make public buildings less susceptible to acts of vandalism. These options may include; anti-climb paint, grids on the windows and iron gates in front of the doors.
Notes:
- People should report all sightings of vandalism in progress to the police, or if it is something that has already happened they can contact the number displayed on a contact board in the toilets \n
- The Borough of Poole offers a £250 reward for information that leads to a successful prosecution
