Joint Arts Plan Launch

A Joint Arts Plan for Bournemouth link will open in new window and Poole will be launched on Wednesday 6 October from 5.30pm at The Study Gallery, Poole. The plan has been created by the Arts Development units of each authority and it outlines the views of many individuals and organisations involved in the arts across the conurbation.

The idea is that arts development in Bournemouth and Poole are to be recognised locally, regionally and nationally. The two boroughs aim to set an example by implementing innovative and well managed activities and creating an environment in which artists flourish and receive due recognition.

Cllr John Millward, Leader of Bournemouth Borough Council and Cllr Brian Leverett, Leader of the Borough of Poole support the initiative.

In a joint statement, the two leaders said: "The Joint Arts Plan is a reflection of Bournemouth and Poole Councils' continuing partnership. This new initiative demonstrates that the artists' interests and aspirations are supported by the two local authorities working closely together. It is recognised that participating in the arts helps to meet public policy objectives in areas such as life long learning, social inclusion, regeneration, health and well being. We believe that the development proposals within the Joint Arts Plan are a visionary approach to securing the future of the arts across the two towns."

The Joint Arts Plan has also been recognised nationally by The Rt Hon Estelle Morris MP, Minister of State for the Arts, who said: "I am delighted to offer my support to Bournemouth and Poole's Joint Arts Plan which demonstrates how local authorities can work together to agree joint priorities and policies for the arts and cultural sector. The arts are important in bringing communities closer together and local authorities are a key driver in making this happen. I would like to wish all partners every success in delivering the plan."
