People organising small events in Poole Park to raise money for charity will no longer have to pay a site rental fee.
The decision follows a review of event charging, after issues were raised by a recent charity event held in the park.
Cllr Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "A small fee has been charged for many years to contribute towards the Council's administrative costs but due to concerns it may prevent small community groups doing important work, these costs will now be covered through efficiencies. I am delighted to announce this change which confirms the Council's support for community groups raising money for charitable purposes, whilst also encouraging people into Poole Park to enjoy their leisure time."
To ensure events are safe for participants and all other park users, the Borough of Poole's Leisure Services will provide free support and guidance to community groups wanting to hold events in the park. Anyone wishing to hold an event still requires permission from Leisure Services, tel: 261358 to book and find out more.
Large events such as those involving stalls, displays or those that may need areas of the park specifically cordoned off for their use, will also need agreement from the Council. Fees will continue to be charged for commercial events.
