17 Oct 01Helping hand into the Workplace
Poole residents seeking help to find employment due to disability, mental health or family caring commitments now have a range of opportunities available to help them into the workplace.
Over the past year the Government funded employment programme 'Workstep' and European Social Fund 'Ways of Working' projects have provided training and support for over 100 local people to help them find employment.
In addition, the Peacock Tea Rooms at Upton House and the new Chestnut nursery at Poole Park also offer valuable catering and horticultural work experience which could lead to jobs with local employers.
Cllr Jane James, Executive Spokesperson for Care, said: "The tea rooms and nursery are giving many people who thought they would not be able to work a great sense of achievement and confidence. We are continually looking at new ways to help people prepare and find work and hope to open more projects in the future."
