International Walk to School Day

Two schools in Poole are giving their support by encouraging all their pupils to walk to school on Tuesday 2 October . Stanley Green First School and Longfleet Combined School are hoping that as many of their pupils as possible will be getting their walking shoes out and joining the Government's commitment, supported by Tony Blair, to make the journey to and from school safer and healthier.

Longfleet Combined School's Year 6 have helped design a certificate which will be presented to all those taking part. The School has a very successful walking bus operating and has organised an after-school display with information for those interested in operating walking buses on different routes.

Mark Thordike, the General Manager of Fitness First Health Clubs has very kindly provided International Walk to School Day stickers for all those taking part.

Lesley Hart, Road Safety Education Officer for Poole said: 'We would like to see as many children as possible walking to school. I will be on hand at Longfleet Combined School from 3 - 4pm on 2 October to answer any questions about our excellent Walking Bus Scheme."

A new web facility for schools around the world to link up via e-mail in support of the day, which is part of Walk to School Week, is now live @ www.iwalktoschool.org.
