Car Free Day - Saturday 22 September 2001

People in Poole and across the U.K. will be joining neighbouring countries on Saturday to celebrate Car Free Day. The successful campaign across mainland Europe, aims to promote quieter streets, cleaner air, less noise and more freedom for pedestrians, cyclists and bus and train users.

Teresa Brown, Travel Awareness Officer, Borough of Poole said: "The whole day is about trying to raise awareness and promote the idea of leaving the car at home. By using an alternative means of transport for journeys to work, for shopping or for leisure activities a difference can be made. This is a great opportunity to encourage people to think again about the way they travel."

As an incentive, several local attractions are offering discounts to people who show a valid bus ticket on Saturday 22 September. Participating attractions in the local area are:

Compton Acres - £1 off adult admission

Splashdown at Tower Park - £1 off full admission price

Dorset Belles - Pleasure Cruises - £1 off fares, £2 off with an Explorer Ticket

BIC Swimming Pool - £2 off a family swim

Littledown Centre - £2 off a family swim

Oceanarium - £2 of full admission price

Stokewood Road Leisure Centre - £1 off a family swim

Vistarama Balloon - 10% off standard ticket price
