27 Feb 07Shaping Poole's Future

'If you had a crystal ball, how would you see Poole in the future?' - that is the question being asked at roadshows for residents throughout March and early April.
The roadshows are kicking off at Branksome Library on the 2 March. Hosted by Poole Partnership
, they are designed to help people think about their visions of Poole in 2026.
A short film on people's ideas for the future of the town will be created from residents responses. People will also being encouraged to comment on two vitally important documents: 'Shaping Poole's Future', a Community Strategy setting out a vision for the town and 'Planning Poole', the Core Strategy of Poole's Local Development Framework.
Despite being a prosperous town with excellent amenities, Poole faces a number of challenges, these are just a few of the factors 'Poole Partnership' are asking people to consider:
· The high cost of housing that prevents many younger people from being able to afford to stay in their home town.
· Increasing numbers of older people wanting to maintain their independence in their own homes.
· The need to maintain a strong, mixed economy with opportunities for people to learn skills and increase their earnings.
· Maintaining the character of Poole whilst catering for future housing needs.
· The responsibility and challenges of global warming.
· Pockets of deprivation in Poole that means not everyone has the same standard of living.
Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning, said: I am sure everyone who lives in Poole has a vision of what the town will be like in twenty years time. We would like people to be creative and share their thoughts with others. This is an excellent exercise to help us to understand residents hopes and aspirations which will influence plans for Poole's future."
As well as the roadshows, postcards will be available at libraries and at the Civic Centre - people can send them back with their contribution to: Freepost SWB21148, Poole BH15 2ZZ or e-mail poolepartnership.gov.uk
