23 Jul 01On the Beach takes off!
\nPoole residents and visitors came out in force last Thursday to join in Poole’s newest event - On the Beach. The event, sponsored by Sands Brasserie, was the third this Summer but for the first time focused just around Shore Road and Sandbanks, after event organisers decided to transfer activities scheduled for Branksome Chine to the main beach area.
Graham Richardson, Tourism Manager, said: "Concentrating the scheduled activities within a smaller area has worked very well - the party really took off last week. We were delighted to see as many people soaking up the atmosphere at the beach, as we used to see at the very popular summer festival evenings on the Quay."
"Part of our tourism strategy is to generate activities which help support tourism outside the peak period and to fully involve local residents. This event starting at the beginning of July has certainly provided the season with a kick start!"
John Belk, General Manager of the Sandbanks Hotel, said: "It was great to see families bringing along their own beach games and adding even more variety to the exciting programme of games, activities and entertainment already lined up."
