Make A Difference In Turlin Moor

To support the national Make a Difference Day link will open in new windowcampaign, Poole residents are being invited to join in with this year's campaign and help transform the recreational area at Turlin Moor Youth Centre on Saturday 21 October between 10am and 2pm.

Led by the Community Service Volunteers link will open in new window(CSV), Make a Difference Day link will open in new windowis the UK's largest day of volunteering where an estimated 115,000 people across the country will volunteer their time for community projects between 21 October and 4 November 2006.

The Borough of Poole has supported the campaign over the last five years organising a number of events at a different area each year, including Alderney and Canford Heath.

This year, residents are being asked to help build a new community wildlife garden, plant bulbs donated by Plowmans Garden Nursery and Plant Centre and construct new containers for floral displays. A tidy up of the area will also take place with litter pickers provided for volunteers. Residents will also be able to dispose of bulky domestic items free of charge in skips provided between 10am and 2pm only on the Saturday.

Staff from the Council's Environmental & Consumer Protection Services (E&CPS) and Leisure Services will be there to help along with a team from Barclays International.

The clean up of the area will help set the scene for the second Turlin Moor's Half Term Fun Day which takes place on Thursday 26 October from 10am until 4pm. Open to everyone, there will be art workshops, multi-skill sports coaching, storytelling and further work on the wildlife garden.

Councillor Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment: "In previous years we have been overwhelmed at how many people have been willing to give up their spare time to give something back to their local community and we are sure the response this year will be just as good.  Giving up just a few hours of your time really can make a big difference to people's lives."

Those wishing to get involved should contact Elizabeth Williams, in Environmental & Consumer Protection Services at Borough of Poole on 01202 261747.
