Reduction in Anti-Social Behaviour at Bearwood

A massive 70% reduction in anti-social behaviour has been noted in Poole following the introduction of the town's first Section 30 Dispersal Notice 2 weeks ago.

Bournemouth Police and the Borough of Poole introduced the notice in parts of Bearwood, after evidence was collected of persistent anti-social behaviour in the area including underage drinking, abuse and criminal damage.

The police have recorded a considerable reduction in the number of calls from all areas of Bearwood, not only the designated area. The police and Poole Council are delighted at the early success of the notice and report that no one has yet been arrested within the designated area for breaching its conditions.

PC Simon Bridge, Bearwood Community Beat Officer, comments, "The Section 30 Notice has had a noticeable effect in reducing anti-social behaviour across Bearwood and has aided the police in managing this difficult issue. This is early days and we would ask residents to remain vigilant and report any problems they may experience in their neighbourhoods. In response to residents comments we will commence a scheme, 'Cop on a Corner', to informally meet with local people in Somerfield car park, the first being on the 1st July at 8pm."

Ian Cooke, Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator, Borough of Poole, said, "The Section 30 notice has been successful so far in deterring anti-social behaviour across Bearwood and has allowed the community to enjoy the beginning of summer free from intimidation and harassment. I hope that those who choose to behave anti-socially have now got the message that this behaviour will not be tolerated and that the rest of the summer will be just as enjoyable for Bearwood's residents."

Councillor Brian Leverett, Leader of the Council, summed up, "Poole Council is pleased that early indications suggest the Notice is being successful and vindicates the need for such actions. This type of activity highlights the good partnership work that exists between the Council, Police and other agencies in tackling anti-social behaviour in Poole."
