Bag It! and Keep Recycling Moving

Residents in Poole are being urged to keep the paper in their recycling boxes dry to help increase the amount of material that can be recycled. The recent spate of wet weather has meant that some paper has become difficult to recycle.

Increasing quality requirements, set by the reprocessing plants, have led to necessary changes in collection methods. Residents are being asked to put paper inside an untied plastic bag or keep it inside until the day of collection in order to keep the material dry for recycling. Quality demands also mean that steel and aluminium cans should be washed and dried wherever possible.

Residents can also take materials for recycling to the several 'Bring Sites' situated throughout the Borough - www.boroughofpoole.com has a full list of 'Bring Sites' detailing the materials that can be recycled at each site.

Peter Pawlowski, Head of Consumer Protection Services, said: "Higher standards relating to water content are required by the reprocessing mills so we must try to keep the paper as dry as possible. Implementation of the new waste strategy with 120 litre wheeled bins used for kerbside recycling collection will overcome this problem in the future."
