How and Where to Enrol

Access to Leisure & Learning is Poole's discount scheme that allows disabled people, people on low incomes and those in full-time education to take part in leisure and sports activities at reduced rates.

How you qualify for the scheme

How to become a member / renew a card / replace a lost card

If you are eligible for Access to Leisure & Learning membership, you can become a member in three ways, either by completing an online application form, telephone or at one of the enrolling centres.

Online: The online form provides online payment facilities, digital image upload  and will ask for details of eligibility. These details will be cross checked against records and verified.

Phone: Call 01202 261306 to speak with our team. They will take your details, eligibility (These details will be cross checked against records and verified), and payment.  You can send a colour picture through the post or via email and we will then send your card to your home address. There's no need to visit an enrolment centre.

At an enrolment centre: Should you wish to apply at an enrolment centre, you will need to provide, for all applicants above 3 years old, the following:

  • a photo - the same size as a passport photo, sized 2.5 cm x 3.5 cm
  • the correct proof of eligibility for each applicant
  • the annual membership fee in cash or cheque
  • the main applicant will need to collect their card personally, but can also collect the other family members cards.
  • If you are renewing your membership please bring your old card
  • if you are replacing a lost, damaged or stolen card you will need to apply and pay for a new card.

Cost of joining the Scheme

There is an annual Membership fee:

  • Family Membership - £4.65
  • Over 16 years - £3
  • Under 16's - £2.30
  • Under 3's - free
  • Group cards - £14.60 (including VAT)

Family memberships

These are restricted to people who have one of the starred benefits listed in the qualifying criteria and are only available when all family members apply at the same time. The named benefit claimant must be present when you enrol. The membership can include a spouse/partner and dependent children still in education (either mainstream or further education, studying either A levels or NVQ's level 3, up to and including age 19)  provided they are all living with the main applicant. Children under 3 years will not be issued with their own card at an enrolment centre but their names and dates of birth should appear on the application. All online applicants including those under 3 will receive their own card.

If you have been issued with a letter confirming you are eligible for free school meals this will be accepted as proof of eligibility for a family membership.

If you are a carer, you can apply for a card if you:

  • are receiving Carers Allowance
  • have had a Carers Assessment by Social Services and have been issued with a referral letter.

Helper entitlement

If you are receiving one of the disability benefits and you need help accessing activities, you can have a helper accompany you. Please ensure when applying for your membership, that you ask about  ‘helper entitlement’ or tick the appropriate box on the online application.

Looked after Children

All looked after children must be resident with a BH postcode. Foster families registered with Borough of Poole can also apply.  Social Services will provide you with a referral letter.

Where to enrol

Online applications are the most convenient way to apply saving you the hassle of queuing and bringing paperwork to an enrolling centre.  Applicants applying online will be sent their card in the post but will be able to use their membership straightaway by simply printing a copy of their completed online form.

Alternatively you can speak with one of our team on 01202 261306 who can take your application over the phone, again without the hassle of queuing and taking paperwork to an enrolment centre.

At an enrolling centre, listed below:

Should you prefer to apply in person at an enrolling centre, your card/s will normally be issued while you wait. However, please be aware that at peak periods we may ask you to collect your card/s the following day.
