Branksome Dene & Chine

Branksome Dene Chine was once part of an extensive system of heathland that extended inland and along the Dorset and Hampshire coasts, covering much of what is Bournemouth and Poole today.

Only isolated patches of heath now remain within the Chine and these are particularly important to conserve. A large part of the Chine is wooded, with mature Pines and a dense cover of Rhododendron underneath. Much of this was planted during the 19th century when the Chine was part of the Branksome Dene Hall estate.

The Chine can be reached by car from Pinewood Road and by foot from the sea front and paths leading from Cassel Avenue and Sandbourne Road.
