About This Library

Oakdale Library is opposite the Poole Skills and Learning's Oakdale Centre in Wimborne Road.

The Bookerie Reading Garden created by Creekmoor with Oakdale WI and Culture volunteers is open during opening hours for library users to sit and enjoy the flowers, bees, butterflies and birds. In 2014 a Commemorative garden was created in the front grounds of the library and is open to visit at all times. Regular events take place in the Reading Garden and library. Please see the Library's events brochure for details. You can keep up to date with happenings in the garden by visiting our blog at www.oakdalelibrarygarden.wordpress.com

We have regular activities for under 5s in our Bookstart Rhymetime - a chance to meet other parents and have a cup of coffee/tea with us afterwards. We have a new parenting section, with books to borrow and information about what’s on and who to talk to.

You can issue and return your items on our self-service machines.

We also have strong links with a local Family History Group, a section of books on researching your family tree, and staff who are willing to help!

All our libraries offer regular activities for all ages, such as:

  • Story times for adults and children

  • Discussion groups

  • Coffee mornings

  • Computer help drop-ins (Computer Buddies)

  • Councillor and/or police surgeries

  • Advice sessions

  • Reading groups

  • Keep fit

They also hold special events such as author visits.

To find out what regular and one-off activities are taking place in this library, go to our What's on for adults and children page.

Libraries have computers for you to use for free, and can help you learn to use them - see the section on Computer Buddies.

For children's Rhymetimes and storytimes, go to the Bookstart Rhymetime page.
