Together with the service providers, we work closely with Poole Service Users Forum to ensure the needs and opinions of service users are part of current service development and the establishment of new services.

Each year we undertake a Needs Assessment to find out how to develop the services required in Poole, in order to meet the communities’ needs. This has resulted in a new Carers Service  which includes a 24-hour helpline, workshops, one to one sessions and drop in service for carers of all ages. Carers Helpline: 07977 908899, EDAS Carers Service: 01202 733322

The Drug and Alcohol Action Team is based within the Borough of Poole’s Commissioning & Improvement – People Services, and works in partnership with NHS Bournemouth & Poole (Primary Care Trust), Dorset Police, Dorset Probation Services and the Poole Safer Partnership. We report to Public Health England, which monitors the standards of substance misuse services in England.

In April 2013 Poole DAAT will be absorbed into Public Health, which is moving to Local Authorities under the government's reorganisation of the NHS.

Poole Addictions Community Team

Poole Addictions Community Team (PACT) treats adults who are dependent upon alcohol or drugs. Our team includes a doctor, social workers, nurses and a visiting psychologist.  We provide a specialist substitiute prescribing service for heroin addiction, support and advice for stimulants amd legal highs. We can help if you 'use over the counter' medication or are concerned about the medication your GP may be prescribing. We have a specialist alcohol teal who liaise with your GP and offer community alcohol detoxes, if it is felt appropriate to do so. We also provide a confidential needle exchange, advice and support to opiate and steroid users and vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B.

We work closely with other local service providers of community and residential services e.g. SMART, Essential Drugs and Alcohol Services (EDAS), counselling services and Flaghead, which is the inpatient detoxification unit in Christchurch.  Our joint-working with the health, social services, criminal justice and mental health services, makes your journey through treatment as uncomplicated as possible.

Service User and Carer Forums have also been established by the Poole Drug & Alcohol Action Team (DAAT).

If you are dependent upon alcohol or drugs you can be referred for treatment by a Poole-based GP or other professional, or you can self-refer to SMART on tel: 01202735777 or via https://poole.drugreferrals.com (online referral).
