Council Budget - Where Money Comes From

 

The Council's total budget to provide day-to-day services is made up of five elements. The diagram below shows where the money comes from to pay for the services you need.

Money given by the Government to the Council (from national taxation) for their priorities. The Council must spend this money as it is directed and it is monitored by performance targets.

Money given by the Government to the Council from national taxes for general use.

Money given by the Government to the Council from Business Rates collected in Poole and then redistributed across the Country.

Money raised by the Council from local Council Tax payers to make up the shortfall between what the Government gives us for services, money raised from fees and charges and the cost of providing services for everyone in Poole

Money raised by the Council from fees and Chargeable services it provides such as car parking, care, housing rent, beach hut and allotment rent
