Track Betting Licence

 What is a Track Betting Licence?

Under the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963, a Track Betting Licence is required for the provision of betting facilities on tracks within the Borough of Poole and an application for the grant of a licence must be made by the occupier or proposed occupier of the racecourse in question.


 How do I apply?

At least 2 months before the application is made the applicant must give the Licensing Authority, Planning Services and the Police a written notice:

  1. Stating that it is intended to make the application on that date, and
  2. Describing the situation of the track and the number and positions of the exits provided, and
  3. Stating the number of spectators for whom accommodation is provided or is intended to be provided, and
  4. The applicant has published such a notice in at least two newspapers circulating in the locality in which the track is situated.

The applicant must also provide a scale plan of the track site.


 How long does the licence last?

A Track Betting Licence once granted lasts for a period of seven years from the date on which it is expressed to take effect, unless cancelled or revoked. At the end of this period a new licence must be applied for.


 How much does the licence cost?

The initial costs of a licence is £464, and thereafter an annual fee of £464 is payable during the period of the licence by the licence holder. The first payment is payable on the day on which the licence takes effect and annually thereafter.
