Black and Blue Bin Collection Guidance

Bins must be available for collection between 6am and 11pm on your collection day. If you do not do this your refuse, recycling or garden waste may not be collected. We will not return. If this happens you are required to make your own arrangements to dispose of your waste free of charge at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Bins must be clearly visible (ie not behind a hedge, garden wall) with no restrictions to access (ie behind a gate). In locations with very narrow (where bins would cause difficulties for footpath users) or no public footpath, bins can be presented up to 1 metre (one footstep) inside the property boundary.
Residents who are unable to put a bin out for collection can apply for assistance if there is no one else at the property who can help.
Bin lids must be closed. No extra bags, boxes or loose refuse will be collected. Any surplus waste can be disposed of at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Overfilled or Overweight Bins
Bins will not be emptied and will be tagged to advise you, please remove some of the waste. We will not return before your next collection. Any surplus waste can be disposed of at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre
Inappropriate Use of Bins
If there are incorrect items in your bin eg. black bin waste in the blue recycling bin, your bin will not be emptied and will be tagged to advise you. Please remove any incorrect items. We will not return before your next collection. Any surplus waste can be disposed of at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre
There are occasions where collection teams are prevented from accessing bins due to poorly parked vehicles or roadworks. We will attempt to return before your next collection. Known issues can be viewed here. Please help us by parking considerately on collection day.
We will not return to reports of missed bins except when a bin is missed due to operational reasons eg. roadworks, access issues, vehicle breakdowns or is a missed registered assisted collection. Known collection problems for your area are publicised, you do not need to report these.

If you are having repeated problems with your bin collection please let us know using our on-line form giving as many details as possible to help us investigate the problem, for example, the exact location the bin is left, if not at the front of the property.
Note our crews are on duty from 6am to 11pm.
Responsibility and Ownership of Bins
All bins supplied by the Borough of Poole (free or chargeable) remain the property of the Council. Householders are responsible for keeping the bins safe, clean and reporting any bins that are damaged, lost or stolen.
Bins can become damaged or they may fall in the collection vehicle when being serviced. If this happens, you can report it to us using our on-line facility for a repair or replacement to be organised. If we cannot repair the bin you will be supplied with a replacement. If you have a communal bin we will need to arrange a delivery date if your communal bins are stored in a locked compound or gate. There is a separate online form for communal bins.
Please note, all bin replacements are now supplied as a small 180 litre refuse bin and a large 240 litre recycling bin as standard. Additional capacity will be considered for householders with medical conditions that generate extra waste.

Aggression or Abuse directed towards Collection Teams
Please be considerate to your collection team, they empty over 15,000 bins a day walking the equivalent of 12 miles each in all weather conditions. Aggressive or abusive behaviour that may include threats, personal verbal abuse, derogatory remarks and rudeness will not be tolerated and may be reported to the Police.
Cameras are fitted to our collection vehicles for the purpose of Health and Safety of employees and members of the public but may also be used to investigate accidents and incidents including abuse towards our crews.
