Waste Electronic & Electrical Equipment

You are able to recycle large electrical items such as televisions and small electrical items such as hairdryers, kettles and electric toothbrushes. As well as electronic devices such as smartphones and games consoles.

A crossed out wheelie bin symbol can be found on new electrical items to remind consumers that when they replace a household electrical item the old one can be recycled.

Electrical recycling

Electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) can be taken to the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre to be recycled. There are also WEEE recycling banks in the Dolphin Swimming Pool Car Park, Civic Centre Car Park, Lake Pier Car Park, Ravine Road Car Park and Penn Hill Car Park (Canford Cliffs Road) for small electrical items.

Low energy light bulbs or compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) should not be a major hazard if handled correctly. However, they could cause a problem if disposed of in a waste bin because of small amounts of mercury they contain. Used bulbs can be taken back to the retailer if the owner is a member of The Distributer Takeback Scheme.

The Borough of Poole also provides a facility to dispose of low-energy light bulbs at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre.
