About this nature reserve

Roman Road was build around 43AD, as a supply route to a nearby fortress.

Types of habitat

The 4.6 km long Roman Road travels through deciduous woodland, remnant pine plantation, and lowland heath until it reaches Corfe Mullen.

What to see

  • common woodland species
  • great spotted woodpecker.

Parking

There is limited parking on roads near this reserve.

Dogs

Your dog must be on a short lead during bird breeding, 1 March - 31 July, or when livestock are near.

Remember to keep dogs under close control and to pick up after them.

Access

There are many ways to get on to Roman Road from nearby residential areas. The best access point is from Upton Country Park, following signs for Bridleway 1.
