The choice of equipment has been aimed to offer a wide range of experiences for local children with special needs of all ages, who can now play with and alongside their friends.

Hatchard’s Field now offers a great new range of play equipment in a lovely setting, complemented with new areas of sensory shrub planting, mounds and landscaping There is adequate seating and picnic tables for parents and carers.

The new equipment includes a multi-directional buddy swing supplied by Fenland Leisure, a Proludic hip-hop (modern rotating see-saw), a wheelchair accessible see-saw supplied by Timberplay and a wheelchair accessible  trampoline supplied by Huck, a unique “Waltzer” roundabout (the only one in the borough) supplied by Safe & Sound and  two low level musical orbs supplied by Inclusive Play situated close to the circular footpath to allow wheelchair users easy access. There is also a Tayplay cone climber, monkey bars and somersault bars supplied by Kompan and an Hags-Smp ark springer with backrest.

The old junior climbing frame and the  original junior and cradle swings were retained and repainted. New mono self closing gates supplied by Medway were installed to assist in the accessibility of the site.

The play equipment provision includes a low fenced mini multi-use games area (MUGA) supplied by Fawns is located just outside the main fenced play area to encourage a range of different ball sports for older children. This play area is now suitable for children between the ages of 2 to 18+ years of age.

The play equipment in this play area was manufactured and installed to comply with current safety standards applying at the time of installation and all items of equipment are provided with a safer surface where required.

The play equipment and the immediate surrounding areas are inspected on a regular basis. An annual inspection is also carried out by an independent qualified organisation that prepares a safety audit and a report to enable the Council to plan long term maintenance and renewal.

This site has very good pedestrian access with a circular sensory footpath to give access to all the equipment in the play area. There is limited parking on surrounding local roads.
