The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places statutory duties on us to:

  • assess the likely risk of emergencies occurring and use this to put in place emergency plans
  • put in place business continuity management arrangements
  • put in place arrangements to make information available to the public about civil protection matters and maintain arrangements to warn, inform and advise the public in the event of an emergency
  • co-operate and share information with other local responders, such as Fire, Police, Ambulance and other Local Authorities, to enhance co-ordination
  • provide advice and assistance to businesses and voluntary organisations about business continuity management.

A part of the Risk and Resilience Team's duties is to carry out Emergency Planning for Poole. We are responsible for planning for a wide variety of potential incidents, disruptions or emergencies that could affect the residents of Poole and the services they receive from us.

By assessing the risks to Poole and working closely with our colleagues in the council and with partner agencies we can provide the plans, procedures and information required for a coordinated response. This can help reduce the effects of any disruptive challenges occurring within Poole or with our neighbours in Dorset and Bournemouth, while allowing our services to continue to provide their usual day-to-day services as much as possible.
