Fires and Heath Fires

Fires have the potential to have a huge impact on our lives, whether those fires are in our homes, businesses or in premises nearby.

So what can you do?

  • book a home fire risk assessment
  • install a smoke detector
  • test the batteries in your smoke detector every week
  • plan an escape route from your home, should the normal route from your home be blocked
  • keep window locks and door keys where everyone can find them
  • in case of a fire, keep calm, get everyone out, stay out and call 999

During warmer, drier months the heathlands in and around Poole suffer from a high number of uncontrolled and deliberate fires. Smoke from these fires can drift towards houses and cause disruption to local roads.

You should:

  • follow the advice of the Fire Service or Police
  • if advised to go indoors, stay in and close all windows
  • tune in to local radio or TV stations
In some circumstances you may be asked to leave your home. If this happens leave as quickly and calmly as possible. Again follow the advice of the Fire Service or Police.
