What is the Carer Support Service?

This service provides support to the carers, relatives and friends of those with mental health difficulties, between the ages of 18 and 65, living in Poole.

It is a project that is funded by Social Services and managed by Richmond Fellowship link will open in new window.

What does it provide?

Information on:

  • carers issues
  • mental health
  • local and national agencies
  • where to find help with day-to-day issues
  • friendly support groups
  • one-to-one crisis support
  • short-term respite
  • a listening ear and someone to talk to

Poole Carers Support Group

A friendly, informal support group for carers, relatives and friends which meets each month. The group provides:

  • an opportunity to meet and talk to other people in the same situation as yourself.
  • a source of information including regular speakers talking on a wide range of mental health issues such as medication, benefits and carers assessments.
  • advice, support and the opportunity for socialising.

The group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7.30 to 9.30pm at:   The Poole Mental Health Resource Centre, Eastgate Lodge, Poole Park, Parkstone Road, Poole BH15 2JH

Dorset HealthCare NHS Foundation Trust employs a Mental Health Carers Officer who is based with the Poole Community Mental Health Team for Adults of Working Age.
